What is Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy?
Treatments designed to address the cognitive problems that arise after a brain injury or neurological illness. There are generally two types of cognitive rehabilitation treatments:

Restorative treatment: goal is to improve the cognitive functioning in domains that are impaired via training (e.g. memory or attention training)

Compensatory treatment: goal is to learn specific strategies to compensate for problem areas such as using memory notebooks, calendars/day planners, alarms etc.
What types of treatments are used?
Evidence based treatments will be utilized in the clinic as part of day treatment or as a standalone treatment. Treatments offered at EMPOWER include but are not limited to:

Who will I work with to do cognitive rehabilitation?
You will meet 1-2 times per week for one hour with the therapist for 6-8 weeks and then do assigned exercises from home or in the clinic 5 days per week.
